Top 6 Exercise Excuses and How to Beat Them!

1. "I Don't Have Time"
How much television do you watch?  Get in a full workout by just skipping one 30 minute episode! 
2.  "I'm Too Tired"
HA - well guess what?!  Working out will give you MORE energy!! And you will feel AMAZING once you start producing those feel-good endorphins!
3.  "I Don't Get A Break From the Kids"
Choose a fun activity outside, like walking or jumping rope!  Or Have the kiddos "help" you with your work out, and make sure that you are following along with Shaun T!
4.  "Exercise is Boring"

Delicious Zucchini Lasagna

I have seen different recipes for this all over for quite some time now -- and NOW I am asking myself WHY I didn't make it sooner!!  This is easily a new favorite, and hopefully yours now too!!

What You Need:

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 large onion
  • 1 tsp. olive oil
  • salt and pepper
  • 28 oz. can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh basil
  • 3 medium zucchini, sliced 1/8" thick (use a mandolin so you don't lose a finger!)
  • 15 oz part-skim ricotta
  • 8 oz part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 Parmigiano Reggiano, shredded
  • 1 large egg

What You Need To Do:

  1. In a medium sauce pan, brown the meat and season with salt and pepper.  When cooked (reaching 165 degrees F), drain in colander to remove any excess fat.
  2. Add olive oil to the pan and saute garlic and onions, for about 2 minutes.
  3. Return the meat to the pan, add tomatoes, basil, salt and pepper.  Simmer on low for at least 30-40 minutes, covered.  Do not add any extra water, the sauce should be thick!
  4. Meanwhile, slice zucchini into 1/8" thick slices, lightly add salt and let sit for 10 minutes.  Zucchini has a lot of water when cooked, salting it takes out a lot of moisture!  After 10 minutes, blot the excess moisture with a paper towl.
  5. On a gas grill or grill pan (I used the bottom half of my George Foreman), grill zucchini on each side, until cooked, about 1-2 minutes per side.  Place on fresh paper towel to soak any excess moisture!
  6. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  7. In a medium bowl, mix ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese and egg.  Stir well.
  8. In a 9x12 casserole dish, spread some sauce on the bottom and layer the zucchini to cover.  Then place the ricotta cheese mixture, then top with the mozzarella cheese and repeat the process until all ingredients are used up!  Top with sauce and mozzarella and cover with foil.
  9. Bake 45 minutes, covered, at 375 degrees F.  Uncover and cook for 15 additional minutes.  
  10. Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving, then ENJOY!!

Tai Cheng

What is Tai ChengTM?

How does Tai Cheng work?
In teaching Tai Cheng, Dr. Cheng uses a technique called Dynamic Motion ControlTM. This teaching method helps you understand Tai Chi and its movements by developing fluency in it, similar to the way you learn a new language: by first being exposed to sounds, then turning the sounds into words, and later combining those words into phrases. In Tai Cheng, you’ll learn individual movements, join the movements together to make combinations, then build the combinations into longer series.
Dynamic Motion Control allows you to experience the practice of Tai Chi, and the Tai Cheng program, without feeling overwhelmed by being introduced to too many moves at the same time.

Dr. Mark Cheng
Dr. Mark Cheng, the creator of Tai Cheng, is a martial arts master trainer with 3 decades of experience in Tai Chi. He holds a PhD in Chinese medicine and acupuncture and is a licensed acupuncturist, traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, and physical therapy–based corrective exercise expert.

Your muscles generate ATP in a variety of ways. One of these ways uses a compound generated called phosphocreatine (aka creatine phosphate). Shakeology Brownies

What You Need:

  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 scoop Chocolate Shakeology
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • dash of cinnamon

What You Need To Do:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Spray a bread loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Mix ingredients together and then spread in pan.  Dough will be thick.
  3. Bake for 8-12 minutes, checking frequently until perfect consistency.

Orange Dream
1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology
1/2 cup 100% orange juice
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp grated orange peel

Vanilla Almond
1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 Tbsp. natural almond butter

Minty Watermelon
1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology
1 cup cubed watermelon
6 fresh mint leaves
1/2 cup water

Vanilla Chai
1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology
1 cup brewed chai tea, cooled
1 tsp. raw honey

Roasted Rosemary Lemon Chicken Breasts

What You Need:

  • 1-2 medium lemons, sliced
  • 2 - 3 sprigs rosemary
  • 3 garlic cloves, quartered
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

What You Need To Do:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Layer half of the lemon slices and 1 sprig of rosemary on the bottom of the baking dish.  Scatter half of garlic around the pan.
  3. Trim any excess fat from chicken breasts, and season both sides with salt and pepper.  Lay chicken breasts on top of rosemary lemon bed.  Top with remaining lemon slices, and place remaining sprigs of rosemary in between chicken breasts.  Sprinkle remaining garlic.  Drizzle chicken breasts with olive oil.
  4. Bake for 35-45 minutes (depending on thickness of breasts) until chicken is cooked through and reaches internal temperature of 165 degrees.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and let rest for 5 minutes.
  6. Serve and Enjoy!
